So Many Changes ...

I started this blog a while back to able to share our adoption journey. When we traveled to get Emma we used a hosted site and all of our friends and family loved being able to follow along on our journey. What I didn't know when I started this blog is that it was going to be such a long time between when we started and when we would finally be bringing our daughter home. So in the meantime I shared about Emma and Ryan and various other things but I really never have talked about my job or really even that much about me and Brian. I would venture to say that most people who stop by here are looking for news on the kiddos ... if that's you, you may want to skip today's post.

I have shared that we relocated from Texas to Louisville. The reason for the relocation was for my job. Well, that job is no more. We arrived home late on Thursday the 22nd and on that Friday I had a call from my employer with the news that my position had been eliminated. It would have been nice to have been given the chance to get over jet lag, but I suppose that just wasn't on their list of priorities. Lots of people were affected but most had found out back in November with our group being notified in January. Another group will find out in March. Career has always been something very important to me. I worked for a good company that I cared about and on a great team that worked so well together. I had a great job, great boss that I respected, cared for, enjoyed ... all that stuff. But, it just wasn't to be. Months away from my 10 year anniversary with my plan being there until retirement but my plan wasn't their plan.

Then this week we were hit with a terrible ice storm that took out the power. Thankfully we have lots of friends who love and care for us and we had several offers of a place to stay. We ended up staying with the friends who were the ones who first invited us to the church we still attend. Even under the bad circumstances, we had the best time visiting with them and they seemed to enjoy having us and especially having a chance to play with the kids. My friend Angie let the girls help her cook and let them pretend to wash dishes - they had a blast! We had tried toughing it out a few days but it was just too cold, especially for the little ones.

So, even with the bad times ... they are made much easier with the help of friends and faith in God. I truly trust and believe that all will work out in time and with His help. Our trust is truly in Him.

So sorry to hear about your job. It seems there are more & more layoffs with our struggling ecomony.

We live in the midwest as well & experienced some of the weather that you all received. However, our ice volume was nothing like yours.

Hang in there. I am putting your family on our prayer list. We will continue to keep you all in our thoughts as well.

I, too, am so sorry to hear about your job. It must be especially hard when you really liked it. I hope you can find something else that you love soon.

I am glad you made lemonade out of lemons and had fun with your friends during the bad weather!

Hang in there!

You'll be in our prayers. In an unstable world, isn't it nice to know our God is always the same, yesterday, today and tomorrow. I pray he wrap you in arms as you walk this new path - knowing He is in control.

I am so sorry to hear about your job loss. It is really a tough time and I'm sure it hurts even more finding out over the phone just after your return from China. And so sorry about the ice storm too. Sounds like you have some lovely friends. Will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.

So sorry to hear about this. I know I only met your briefly but I just can tell you are such a good person, I know God has something in store for you - the calm after the storm. My husband's job loss - after working for the same company for nearly 20 years - was such a blow. Right after our planned adoption and the unplanned one. Right after upsizing to a larger home and me quittig my job. Then, an amazing thing happened. An opportunity here in Ky, and here we are so close to his family. We are living quite differently but have never been happier (OK, a little less ice would be nice!) I totally know what you mean about not even knowing where to begin with the list-making as I am a list maker and was so at a loss. It's so hard to see the plan when you're in the midst of it all. We will keep you and your family in our prayers.

Sorry to read about your problems today... In our family, my son in law lost his job right before leaving for China, another relative lost their job after 20 yrs w/ co. There is a big change coming in this cuntry...I told my daughter that a door may close, but God opens a window..It may not be what you expect or think is the best thing, but later looking back you will find it was the right thing... I went through this 18 yrs ago, spent 2 yrs working jobs with co's that kept closing ot moving, but ended up with a co that gave me a pension, medical benefits at retirement, which I had medical problems and I needed that... God took care his way.. Keep your Faith!!! It may be a struggle, but you will be OK... Praying for your family... Linda

So sorry to hear about your job. Another friend of mine who works with your same company but has a daughter that was born in Guatemala lost her job last week too.

I am in Louisville and found your blog off of Starfish! So excited to see your little girl home and I hope she brings you many many blessings in this time of hardship. Both your girls are beautiful!

Carolin,

I'm so sorry. So much stress between the job, the storm and just trying to adjust with a new person in your life. Transitions are hard enough, but when they come together it can be a bit overwhelming. Take a deep breath...it will all work out somehow. I'm thinking of you.

Thanks for all your help...you've been so kind and giving. I appreciate very much. If there is anything I can do in return, just let me know!
