Fun For Today

Okay, because I am terribly sentimental and I can't bring myself to take this to Goodwill ... I'm having a little give-a-way today. This was one of the last items I purchased in China for little Emma. The night before we left we headed out to spend the remaining RMB we had. We had gone in a store had I hadn't shopped in the whole two weeks we were there because they were a little more expensive than the other shops. I had picked out several things and was getting ready to pay when I spotted this jacket and thought it was adorable. I didn't have enough for what I had already decided on as well as the jacket, so I was trying to figure out what to put back. Oh, I need to add ... bargaining is not my cup-o-tea.. The attempts I had made at bargaining were terrible. Anyway, the sweet little clerk just waved her hand at me in a no-no way, put the jacket on top and told me I could just have it! Two weeks of not being able to negotiate then my one time at not even trying, she negotiated for me. Go figure.

Anyway, it needs a new home because it was too small for Rebecca.

It' a size 4.

To enter ... tell me your favorite bible verse and why. Does it sustain you in times of trial? Does it make your heart smile every time you read it? Is it what you hold on to when there's nothing else left to hang on to?

I'll start with mine, it's out of Samuel "For this child I prayed, and the LORD has granted me my petition that I made to him.". It's my favorite because each of my beautiful children are direct answers to prayers. Each one was prayed for, each one now here with us. God is Good!

The winner will be chosen Sunday night by Miss Emma herself.

My favorite Bible verse(s) are Ephesians 4:1 and 11. "I therefore the prisoner of the Lord beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called. And he gave some apostles; and some prophets;and some evangelists; and some pastors and teachers;" I found these verses while I was in college studying to be a teacher, and realized that was really not only what I wanted to do but what God wanted me to do.
If I win I am going to give the jacket to my Mom's "grandaughter" Keira from China. No little Kelly's on the way yet:)

My favorite bible verse is 1Corintheans13:4-7 Love is patient, Love is Kind Love is not boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. This was one of the readings at our wedding and it really shows how pure love is and has me reflecting on how we treat those we love. I really brings me back to our wedding day as well as the birth of our son Evan and the adoption of our daughter Julia.

My favorite scripture is Isaiah 43:4-6. It is through these verses that the Lord sustained me through infertility and called me to adoption.

"Since you are precious in my sight, since you are honored and I love you, I will give other men in your place and other peoples in exchange for your life. Do not fear, for I am with you; I will bring your offspring from the east, and gather you from the west. I will say to the north, 'Give them up!' and to the south 'Do not hold them back. Bring my sons from afar, and my daughters from the ends of the earth."

After my second miscarriage in 1996, I spiraled into a deep depression and inner rage. I had always wanted to be a mom, and I fought with myself and God as I struggled through infertility. I knew that I was going against the wishes of God as we persued infertility treatments, expensive drugs, and surgery.

It was also during this time that God showed to me how lost I truly was, and in September, 1998, I accepted Christ.

Truly at peace, in December 1998 God moved in our lives and we began the adoption process for our oldest son Shelby, who was adopted from Russia in June, 1999. Jeremy was subsequently adopted from Russia in 2001. We traveled three weeks after 9/11.

Through this scripture, God demonstrated to me that we would have a daughter, and, I somehow knew that our daughter would from a different place than our boys. In 2005 we began the process to adopt our daughter from China, and in 2009 Kaelie became the light of our lives.

Hey Carolin, I may be too late . . . but here's my entry. :)It's hard to narrow my choice of a favorite Bible verse. Depending on my phase in life, they seem to change. But, one chapter of the Bible that I have always loved is Psalm 139. Verses 16 "All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be" has been meaningful to me during the hardest times in my life . . . when friends lost their 3 year old son, during my own miscarriages. But verse 16 now encourages me in a new light when I think about all of Brianna's days ordained for her. Some of those days were ordained in China and some with our family. Also vs. 15 talks about God even knowing us when we were conceived. Since I will never know about those details of Brianna's life - how wonderful to know our Maker does.
