The Blessings That Come From Being A Starfish Baby

I've written several times about Amanda, the lady who runs the Starfish Home so I will not repeat myself. But the blessings that come with being a Starfish Baby are plenty. One of her volunteers in the states creates a scrapbook for each of the children and ours was sent to us before we traveled to China. The same volunteer also makes one for Amanda to keep.

Having the heart that she does, Amanda sent several things with Rebecca the other day to help comfort her. She sent several of Rebecca's favorite snacks, some sweet things, a mashed potato mix type thing (one where you just add hot water to the container & mix up) and then a whole bag of clementines. We have discovered that Rebecca LOVES those and shares them freely. The best gift she sent though was her copy of the scrapbook. She wanted Rebecca to have it so she could look through it if she needed comforting. What a blessing, Rebecca has looked at it so many times and she contintually goes to the page where her heart surgery scar is being cleaned and jabbers up a storm, but we just can't tell what she is saying.

All of that to say, Amanda called the other morning and was talking to Rebecca on the phone. Rebecca just so happened to be looking at her scrapbook at the time and while she was excitedly talking to Amanda, she held the phone down as if to show Amanda what she was talking about. Priceless.

Our baby girl has an absolute heart of gold. You can see it in her and just feel the tenderness that she has. The exterior may seem tough, but she has one tender heart.

What a beautiful picture. She is an amzing little girl. She is a gift from God and will bring so much happiness to the Hunter family and those blessed to be part of her life. We can't wait to get to know her.

Carolin,

I LOVE hearing and seeing how Rebecca is bonding---she was quite the "caregiver" at Starfish, and I am so happy to see her snuggling up to your husband and her DADDY! What a gift for both of them. I pray all is well...and that the plane rides will go well!

Without Amanda our baby girl wouldn't be with us... She's the most amazing woman! And she really wants the transition to be as painful as possible. It was so great to have some of Norah's favourite snacks as comfort food. I'm sure this is very comforting for Rebecca also.

Great picture of Rebecca!!! So nice she can talk to Amanda on the phone. Are you going to visit Starfish soon?

Oh, I'm just crying reading this post. You really did nail it on the head...Rebecca has a heart of gold and she stole my heart the very first time she greeted me at the door of Starfish. I just love that child and I am so happy that you found each other. --Martha Osborne
